Carry 2 College Summer | League of Legends Recap

Carry 2 College Summer | League of Legends Recap

AUTHOR: CHRIS "BEARLIGHT" LEE / @BEARLIGHTCASTS

The League of Legends portion of Stay Plugged In's Carry 2 College featured eight great teams of student athletes looking to showcase their skills and personal growth to college recruiters. Stay Plugged In has facilitated over $15 million in college esports scholarships, and just by registering for the event, our recruits looking for these kind of opportunities have already taken a step in the right direction. The next step? Put in the effort and push the personal skill ceiling higher. The field was split into two groups of four for Saturday, with only three open spots per group moving into championship Sunday. Let's check out some of the highlights per day, and recap all player stand-outs and champions in our C2C League of Legends breakdown.

SATURDAY - GROUP STAGE

DREAMLAND L.O.L. vs CC=GG

Both teams took a relatively passive approach in this one. Although the game would push close to 30 minutes in length (28:07), the teams combined for just 21 kills. This was a clear indication that objective play was a key focus, and that both teams were timid to challenge during a take. MINERJAKE played a pretty solid game for CC=GG, finishing with an 87.5% kill participation rate, but it was KEON TOTW and SPIRITKUNAI of Dreamland who made the difference, feeding off of R1KU's 7 assists to go 5/2/4 and 5/1/3 in KDA respectively. KEON TOTW also collected 12,111 gold in the match, nearly over 2,000 more than the top collection of CC=GG

CC=GG RECOVERS NEXT ROUND WITH 42 KILL WIN

No time to rest your heads if you're on team CC=GG. It's Carry 2 College time, where the way that you bounce back is equally, if not more important than any previous games played. Boy did they bounce back. They out-killed their opponent 42-7 and were able to pick up the win in just over 25 minutes. MINERJAKE built off of his solid performance in the previous loss, and put up a 12/0/10 KDA. The rest of the team did pretty well too. Check it out:

JAKEBIGGESTSNAKE - 14/0/7 KDA

NOALTTT - 10/2/7 KDA

KATAWARE TAKI - 3/2/16 KDA

SUNDAY - FINAL BRACKET

UPPER FINAL - CDNF vs DREAMLAND

Both "Cody, Diggie, N' Friends" (CDNF) and 'Dreamland LoL' won their groups with a perfect (3-0) record on Saturday, granting them an Upper Final appearance against one another. CDNF positioned themselves so well and only took fights that favored their team. In a game that lasted over 30 minutes (32:32) they only allowed 7 kills from their opponent. OSUONLY didn't even fall once, putting up 6 kills himself and adding 5 assists to the mix. This was a big reason as to why CDNF would await an opponent in the Grand Finals on the top side.

GRAND FINAL - CDNF vs STARLIGHT

Starlight tracked through the lower bracket with wins over CC=GG, INDLS Esports, and eventually would take out their Coca-Cola Creations counterparts in Dreamland, catching them after their tough loss in the Upper Finals. The stage was set for a CDNF vs Starlight Grand Finals, and Starlight was ready to take the spotlight.

An uncharacteristic loss from CDNF as Starlight became the first team to land a couple of kills on senior standout OSUONLY in the same game. A great moment for Starlight to force the bracket reset, although the stat line above serves as a bit of foreshadowing on what would happen next.

In the longest tilt of the entire weekend in League of Legends, OSUONLY bounced back with a sizable 8/1/6 KDA and CDNF took the 2022 Summer Carry 2 College title! FERNTHEPLANT and CODIE combined for just one kill BUT accounted for a massive 25 assists as tanks (Poppy and Nautilus respectively). HEMORRAGE added an addition 8 assists, and DIGGIE topped the kill chart at a 9/2/5 KDA. The entire team looked confident in their roles, and secured a well earned win over Starlight.
