Week 27 of our Turbo Tuesday weekly tournaments took place this past Tuesday, and with high school students back in the swing of things in the classroom, we saw a pretty large number of participants. Finding a balance between homework and gaming is incredibly important for high school esports athletes. Whether it be athletic, academic, or otherwise, receiving higher grades is the key tool in maximizing scholarship opportunities. It is great to see these students establish a time structure they are comfortable with first, and then get the reps they need here on the pitch to improve their play. Top Slottas and Regiment were back in the mix this week, and a team that is new to the Stay Plugged In platform found their way into the Grand Finals. All of this and more, in this week's breakdown.
TOP SLOTTAS UPPER BRACKET RUN
I definitely feel as though this is becoming a common headline here. Top Slottas have found their way through some talented teams with RESONAL, TIDE, and TEEKAY. This time around, however, they were missing Teekay. In comes PRSTN to fill in the role, and as a team, we were incredibly impressed with the way the they were able to integrate him into their offense.
They rolled past YTAC Varsity Elite (2-0) and then followed it up with a (3-2) tight victory over PHS Eagles Esports. PHS features Stay Plugged In elite prospect AKAICEBORG, and the goal differential was dead even, but Top Slottas continue to come up clutch in high pressure situations and pulled out the 4-2 win in Game 5 to move forward.
Regiment continues to take games off the top teams, including the Upper Finals this week, but their (1-3) loss to Top Slottas will ultimately serve as another learning experience for the squad as they strive to improve this upcoming season. They would also fall by the same (1-3) count to Relentless Esports in the Lower Finals, setting up a Top Slottas vs. Relentless Esports Grand Final.
RELENTLESS ESPORTS, NEW NAME - BIG RESULTS
With a roster of AQUEIS, TEMP, and MADISON, no real history could be pulled from Stay Plugged In events to give an accurate prediction on where they would finish. After a tough first round loss to Kinetic Esports, a long Lower Bracket run would be needed to recover this week. The squad definitely stayed true to their name, as they looked absolutely relentless through their series wins against YTAC JV, PHS Eagles Esports (we talked about above) and Winners POV to reach the Lower Final.
They allowed just four goals in four games against Regiment, including two shutouts to begin the series. Capped by an incredible 5-1 Game 4 win to secure the series, it seemed as if Relentless couldn't be stopped. This was until the Top Slottas showed themselves in the Grand Finals. After Relentless nullified the one-game advantage with a win to even the series at one game a piece, Top Slottas answered with an average of four goals in the next three games to take the title for Week 27.
TOP SLOTTAS WIN TURBO TUESDAY WEEK 27
Congratulations to RESONAL, TIDE, and newcomer PRSTN, for their Turbo Tuesday title! They have proven that with great leadership and a talented, disciplined team, it is possible to overcome roster changes.
